Independent Thinkers blasts Urey
A local group, Free, Conscious, Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia describes as reckless, shameful and wicked, comments attributed to Mr. Benoni Urey, political leader of the All Liberian Party (ALP) that President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is the chief mastermind of Liberia’s woes.
The group says Mr. Urey’s unwarranted characterization of the President of Liberia in such a damming fashion has proven that indeed, his head is buried in the sand and his eyes blind that he cannot sense nor feel the remarkable achievements President Sirleaf has made within the space of twelve years.
It says in fact, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf must be applauded by Mr. Urey for working hard for the removal of his name from the United Nations travel ban listing, saying “It is even due to the unprecedented free speech under President Sirleaf’s Administration that gives Mr. Urey the guts to make disparaging remarks about the presidency; understanding that he was a key player in a regime where free speech was either not respected or absent.”
A press statement dated 21 December and signed by its Chairman Mr. Morris A. S. Swen, Sr., categorically states that Mr. Benoni Urey lacks the moral standing and credibility to embark on a smear campaign to “water down” President Sirleaf‘s legacies.
The Free Conscious Independent and Objective Thinkers of Liberia calls on Mr. Urey to immediately abandon his act of character assassination against President Sirleaf.
“We equally call on Vice President Joseph Boakai to be mindful and alert of the likes of Urey, whose sole intent is to continuously sow seeds of discord between him and President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. It was highly hypocritical and deceptive on the part of Unity Party Standard Bearer Joseph Boakai to have graced an occasion, designed and orchestrated by Mr. Benoni Urey and his band of surrogates to denigrate, humiliate and ridicule President Sirleaf, when few days ago, Vice President Boakai appealed to Unity Party Partisans to exercise respect for President Sirleaf whom he described as his ‘sister and friend”, the release concludes.
