Jerbo scores hat-trick

Jebor hap trick Liberia NDThe Liberian National team, the Lone Star achieved its first away victory in many years with a convincing 3-1 win Tuesday, 13 October against Guinea Bissau in the country’s capital, Bissau.

Striker William Jerbo proved himself man of the match by netting in all three goals for Liberia against the Guinea-Bissauans to qualify the Motherland for the next stage of the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers. The first leg played in Monrovia last Thursday, October 8, ended in 1-1 draw.

The nation’s pride got the curtain raiser in the early minutes of the first half with two quick goals from the legs of Jerbo, while Guinea Bissau reduced the tally with a goal in the dying minutes of the first half. Jerbo’s third and final goal came thru a penalty kick that placed Liberia in a comfortable lead for the rest of the second half up to the end of the match.

Meanwhile, each player of the Lone Star is expected to receive US$3,500 for the remarkable achievement in long time. Upon arrival in Bissau Tuesday, the players received US$1,000, each as an initial payment.
The National team under the guidance of the nation’s most celebrated James Salinsa Debbah, as coach has improved significantly in the last two international matches taking a giant step in the Coco Cola FIFA Ranking.

The president of the Liberia Football Association, Musa Hassan Bility, headed the Liberian delegation to Bissau. Meanwhile, the Lone Star is expected to battle Africa’s champions, Ivory Coast next month in another two legged duel with winner from that match qualifying to the group stage of the 2018 World Cup qualifier.
