JFK to turn down patients if…

Government – run John F. Kennedy (JFK) Memorial Hospital Administrative Head Dr. Jerry Brown is warning that if the go – slow action declared by the Liberia Medical and Dental Association (LMDA) goes for a longer period, JFK might turn away patients that are not on emergency cases.

Dr. Brown says in an exclusive interview with this paper Tuesday, 15 May that some of JFK’s Doctors that are members of the LMDA are on the go – slow action declared by the association, but not all JFK workers.

But he warns that work at the hospital will not be effective because the workload will be heavy for those that remain on duty there.

“We as administrators have realized that patients are not going to get adequate care like they had when we had all the Doctors present. There will be reduction in the numbers of patients we see daily,” Dr. Brown says.

According to him, if cases are not emergency cases and patients come with special cases while the specialized doctor is on go – slow, that patient will have to go to another health facility.

According to Dr. Brown, they have engaged the LMDA so that few of the Doctors can remain to help them with emergency cases.

“Though their response is not yet positive, but we are still appealing to them so that some Doctors can stay back and help those that are not on go – slow,” he says.

Dr. Brown tells the NewDawn that there has been no patient rejected at the JFK since the doctors go – slow started here, adding that normal delivery is going on because midwives and other Physician Assistants are working and the hospital is operating.

Dr. Brown indicates that the go – slow was issued by the LMDA, asking all Doctors under its umbrella not to go to work as a result of some Doctors’ names being trashed out of payroll.

According to him, names removed from payroll were considered to be ghost names, but doctors are demanding the reinstatement of such names on the payroll.

They are also demanding that the months that their names were off the
payroll be paid for because they were working.

He says the leadership of the LMDA is having meeting with its membership to determine whether the go – slow will persist or not.

“There is no way we can turn blind eyes on what is going on. We are all Doctors, though we took oath to save lives but equally so Doctors have families to carter to. Their children too are in school, let them be given what they deserve and worked for,” he concludes.
