Journalists on strike in Bong

About 11 workers including local journalists of privately run Hott FM in Gbarnga, Bong County have staged go-slow, demanding the resignation of Station Manager Lusene Kamara.

Hott FM Gbarnga branch was established by a Liberian Disc Jockey (DJ) Mr. Benard Blue Benson who is contesting the July 2018 Montserrado County senatorial by – election.

The 11 workers have named the mismanagement of funds at the entity, taking of unilateral decisions and Manager Kamara’s alleged refusal to compensate workers as some reasons for the go-slow.

Mr. Lusene Kamara who is said to have applied as Mandingo Announcer in 2015 at Hott FM in Gbarnga, allegedly set up an 11 – man coup to undermine the first Manager of the Station Mr. Isaac Ngatia Roberts who spent six months in the position.

Mr. Kamara allegedly lobbied with majority workers of the entity to allow him serve the managerial position, a situation that led many people to criticize him on grounds that he is not qualified to serve such position.

The station workers have alleged that Mr. Kamara does not have experience to serve as Station Manager, evidenced by his alleged poor performances and his too many grammatical errors especially when he appears on the radio.

Some of the aggrieved Hott FM workers are said to have worked for about three years without compensation by the Station. Besides, Mr. Kamara is said to have been the cause of more than seven workers to leave the entity a year back, and he faces claims of not wanting to see workers in peaceful co-existence.

When contacted by our Bong County correspondent, Mr. Lusene Kamara says he is very busy with other issues and cannot respond to less important stories. The Station started normal broadcast activities in 2015 during the administration of then Manager Isaac Ngatia Roberts.

Mr. Roberts’ dismissal is said to have been masterminded by Kamara. It can be recalled that in 2016, Insight Newspaper Bong County correspondent Patrick Tokpah filed a lawsuit against the Hott FM for alleged bad labor practice, but the case was later allegedly compromised for the sake of peace.
