Judge Emry Paye retires at 70

The Resident Judge for the Eight Judicial Circuit Court in Sanniquellie, Nimba County Emery S. Paye retires at age 70 after 20 years of active service to the state.

He was honored and certificated over the weekend at a formal program held in the historic city, birth place of the then Organization for African Unity, now the African Union.Speaking at the program, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia lauds Judge Paye for his services toward the judicial system in the country.
Chief Justice Francis S. Korkpor notes that the honoree worked in the judiciary for over 20 years, serving the country.

He explains that Article 72 (B) of the Constitution of Liberia requires magistrates, judges and members of the Supreme Court to retire at age 70.He observes that the honoree, while serving the judicial system created no problem up to his retirement.

He says though Judge Paye is retired, but whenever his expertise is needed, he would be called in.The Chief Justice however, did not announce a new resident judge for the county.

Judge Emery Paye entered the judicial system here in 1993 when he was appointed by former President Charles Taylor during the heat of the 14 years of civil war. He served in Grand Bassa County and other parts of the country.

Speaking later, retired Judge Paye thanks Chief Justice Korkpor and the Supreme Court Bench for the honor bestowed on him.He pledges his support and commitment to the court, saying, “You can call on me any time you people need me at the court.”Meanwhile, Associate Justice Banks, who turned 70 recently, officially retires today, Tuesday, 24 July in compliance with constitutional provisions.
