Labour Commissioner threatens to stop work

The Labour Commissioner in Nimba County has threatened to shut down his office at the end September due to lack of logistics and staff. Commissioner Itoka Quoi said his office is without equipment, vehicle and personnel. He told The NewDawnNimbaCorrespondent that due to the lack of manpower, he alone is addressing all labour cases in the county.

Commissioner Quoi disclosed that his office alone receives over seven cases per week, and the job is strenuous, adding that there is no labour inspector in Nimba. He said in the past, the office had staff, who provided voluntary services for the Labour Ministry for over five years, but those personnelleft due to lack of support, including salaries. The Labour Commissioner added that he currently hires commercial motorbikes to go on assignments in the county. He stressed the need to assign staff to his office, including at least three labourinspectors to expedite the job. Edited by Jonathan Browne
