“Lack of healthcare, sanitation pose threat”

A newly inducted commissioner of the Township of Caldwell Mr. E. Francis Woods says the lack of proper healthcare and sanitation pose serious threat to residents of the township in Montserrado electoral district #15.

In an exclusive interview with this paper over the weekend following elections of local officials in the township, Mr. Woods alarmed that the lack of healthcare and sanitation in the township is badly affecting the living condition of residents.“When we were given the opportunity to serve, what we saw was disturbing. No proper healthcare, no sanitation, no youth center in this township, and these are things bring residents and their locals officials (together) to discuss,” he says.

Commissioner Woods was recently appointed by President George Manneh Weah, and was inducted into office two weeks ago.According to the new Commissioner, upon taking the mantle of leadership in the township, citizens have reported to him the lack of basic social needs.

The Township of Caldwell faces lot of challenges, including land survey dispute, poor sanitation, less fortunate children that continue to loiter the streets, and the lack of town hall, among others.
But in the midst of all of these challenges, Commissioner Woods believes that if the people of the township and their officials can work together, his office can bring relief to them.
He encourages locals there to put politics aside because it has the propensity of carrying the township backward.

In the interview, Commissioner Woods outlines measures that he says will be put in place to address the needs of the residents of the township, and by extension the country. He says everyone knows the importance of healthcare and sanitation in this country, indicating that without proper healthcare, citizens find it difficult to get the necessary treatment they deserve.

Meanwhile, residents of the Township of Caldwell have elected new core of officers that will steer the affairs of the township for the next one year at the Elizabeth Tubman Memorial Institute (ETMI) school campus in Caldwell. The Former Acting Commissioner Mr. Jimmy C. Diggs says normally the meeting is used to have new core of officers elected by the residents, and discuss other issues that matter to residents.

Mr. Diggs indicates that people were elected to positions including Road Overseers, Town Clerk, and Constables.According to Mr. Diggs, the meeting is the only opportunity in the year when residents including marketers, students, youth and young adults meet in fulfillment of the Act that established the Township of Caldwell and others.
