Land dispute leaves 2 dead in Rivergee

Two persons have reportedly died in a land dispute in River Gee County, southeast Liberia.

River Gee County, Liberia, March 21, 2025 – Amidst ongoing tension in a town in River Gee County over land dispute, County Superintendent Mike T. Swengbe, leads Joint Security forces, including soldiers of the Armed Forces of Liberia to Kiteabo and Glarro to restore peace.
The move of the superintendent comes in the wake of escalating tensions over a disputed land that has already resulted two deaths.
The situation started on March 18, 2025, following a conflict between the people of Glorra and Kiteabo.
The violent turned critical with Eric Nyenpan of Kiteabo and Sebastian Saylee from Glorra killed.
The situation has brought severe unrest to Electoral District #3, River Gee County.
In response to the violence, the Liberia National Police, Armed Forces of Liberia, Police Support Unit, and the Liberia Immigration Service have all been mobilized to the region in a bid to de-escalate the conflict and ensure safety of all citizens.
During their visit to the disputed area, Superintendent Swengbe urged residents of the affected communities to remain calm.
He emphasized that the Government of Liberia is fully committed to addressing the issue on hand and all other land disputes across the county.
He assured victims’ families that justice will be served and those responsible for the violence would be held accountable.
Civil society groups and concerned citizens in the county strongly condemn the violence and call for swift and thorough investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, the Joint Security presence in the disputed area has restored some level of calm, while residents are calling for proper investigation and dialogue between the communities involved. Editing by Jonathan Browne
