Lawmaker wants Bong divided into two counties

Bong County Senator Henry Yallah says he has proffered a bill to the plenary of the Liberian Senate seeking to establish a new county out of Bong County to be called Bong Range County.

According to Sen. Yallah, when the bill is passed into law, Bong County will be divided into two segments, making lower Bong a separate County while Upper Bong will remains another county.

Explaining the importance of the bill to the media in Sanoyea Town recently, Sen. Yallah claimed that the bill is intended to bring rapid development to Lower Bong County.

“We have a foot mark called the County Development Fund, and the County Development Fund is cut across the country with two hundred thousand each. Between you and I, do you see fairness between River Cess and Bong County having two hundred thousand each?” he asked.

He argues that the country’s Budget is a bulk based financial plan that doesn’t regard the population and demography of a county in terms of the distribution of the country’s national cake.

Sen. Yallah debunked claims that the bill has the potential to bring disunity among residents of Upper and Lower Bong County.

He says the bill when passed into law, will afford residents of Lower Bong the opportunity to have their own breed of leaders who can expeditiously attract development in that leeward region of Bong County.

He added that the people of Lower Bong have over the years experienced the wrath of total neglect in terms of developments, alarming that all of the County’s major developments are situated in Upper Bong.
