LDEA arrests over 50 drug users

The Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency or LDEA arrests over 50 drug users in Ganta, Nimba County. LDEA Nimba County Commander, Col. Arnold Kenewon says, the suspects, including two dealers were arrested in Rehab Community, Hope Village and Ganta by-pass, respectively while taking in drugs.

Col. Kenewon details that some of the suspects are from Monrovia, Bong, Lofa and Margbi Counties, respectively and they do not have place to sleep, but rather in the streets, putting fears in citizens, including travelers.

He discloses that the Agency does not have a cell to detain them, pending court action. Our correspondent says among the suspects are two women, a mother of four children, and a 19-year-old woman.

One of the suspects, Mamie Sonkarlay, confesses that she sells drugs to feed and send her children to school. According to her, she gets the substances from her fiancé Jerry Quoi, and 19-year-old Patrice Fayiah.

LDEA also apprehends 34-year-old Marcus Kollie in possession of huge quantity of Cocaine, putting its street values at US$2,100 or 283,500LRD. The suspects are undergoing investigation at the LDEA office in Ganta. Drugs abuse has become a serious challenge in the country, particularly among young people, posing social problems.
