LEITI dialogues with concession stakeholders

Liberia Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative or LEITI Communication Officer Cedrick Kpadeh says the institution has held dialogues with concession stakeholders in Greenville City and Butaw in Sinoe County; Tubman University, in Pleebo, Maryland County and in Karnweaken, [River Gee].

He told an interview with journalists on Tuesday, 28 February that about 141 participants including women, youth, traditional leaders, disabled, county authorities and representatives from concessionaires were in attendance.

“The daylong event at each site stimulated [and] as well as unveiled challenges faced by both affected communities and concessionaires in the execution of the various agreements accordingly”, Mr. Kpadeh said.

In Butaw, Sinoe County, he said the dissemination exercise brought together the local community and the Golden Veroleum Liberia (GVL), an oil palm producing concession in Liberia.

He said the Golden Veroleum Community Relation Officer in Butaw, Dixon Patten extolled LEITI for the exercise, noting that it
was healthy for the smooth operation of his company especially in Sinoe.

Mr. Kpadeh said the GVL official assured the local community members that the company will engage meaningfully with them for the smooth acquisition of land and the preservation of sacred shrines and
wildlife.
