LFA Drops 6 Clubs

Liberia Football Association has finally demoted six teams from the amateur premiership to the 1st Division. The six teams, placed at the bottom of the league table, will compete in the LFA first division.

The decision by the FA to relegate the clubs is in line with FIFA’s agenda for Liberia to reduce its premier clubs to twelve within three seasons. The clubs are Tony FC, Jasmine Rangers, Gedi & Sons, Liberia-FCAK, Black Star and Deveruex FC.

Though there are reports that clubs are exploring other means of appealing to the Liberia Football Association to reduce the number, the FA has maintained that its action was in consonance with the mandate of the football  world governing body. There are 20 premiership clubs in the Liberia FA.

According to the development plan of FIFA, all clubs participating in the local top flight  must meet a number of  requirements, including Club Office, training facilities, as well as salary structure, among others, something most of the Liberian premiership clubs lack.
