LFA elections set for April 14


The Elections Committee of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) has given its guidelines and electoral calendar for the 14 April elections which are expected to be conducted during congress.


According to a release issued over the weekend, nomination, scrutiny of candidates and registration will run from 9 to 19 March, and final listing will be out on 21 March.

According to the guidelines, the election shall be conducted free of governmental and /or non-governmental interference as contained in the Liberia Football Association (LFA) Electoral Code.

The Commission warns any that candidate who will be found of violating the Electoral Code will be disqualified. Presidential candidates are required to pay USD$2,500.00; vice presidential candidates USD$1,500.00; and executive committee candidates, USD$1,000.00.

Presidential candidates are required to have at least five nominations from stakeholders, at least three nominations for vice presidential candidates and at least one nomination executive committee candidates.

Candidates are required to be at least 25 years old and a Liberian citizen, and that presidential and vice presidential candidates should earn at least a Bachelor’s Degree.

Executive Committee candidates are required to be at least High School graduates. Campaign will run from March 21 to April 13, and the Election Committee has warned that candidates and stakeholders found guilty of campaigning on profanities and falsehood without evidence will be disqualified and barred from contesting and voting.

According the Election Commission, two separate debates will be held, with the vice presidential candidates beginning on 5 April, followed by presidential debate on 6 April.
