Liberia, AfDB To Seal Deal

The Vice President of the African Development Bank arrives in Liberia Wednesday for a three-day official visit. Mr. Bobby J. Pittman, Jr. is the Vice President for Infrastruture, Private Sector and Regional Integration of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The African Development Bank Vice President will be here to sign two significant economic agreements that will impact government’s poverty reduction strategy program, the Ministry of Finance Media Services Unit said.

The ministry’s media unit said the AfDB Vice President and Finance Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan will sign the Labor Based Public Works Project Agreement for the Fish Town- Harper Road –supplemental support and a Direct Budget Support Agreement. Mr. Pittman and team will also hold several high level meetings with senior government officials, diplomatic missions accredited near the capital.

The Media Services release says, the AfDB Vice President Pitman will meet with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on Thursday to be followed by meetings with the Minister of Finance, Public Works and Planning.

On Friday, the AfDB delegation will hold discussions with the Minister of Agriculture, United Sates Ambassador, EU Resident Representative and the World Bank Country Manager.

The African Development Bank is currently funding several developments and economic governance projects as well financial management reforms projects in Liberia. Key among the projects is the Liberia Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Project, Phase one of the Fish Town-Harper Road Project, Agriculture Sector Rehabilitation Project, and Retaining high level professors at the A.M. Dogliotti College of Medicine among others.

The AfDB current support to ongoing projects in Liberia stands at two hundred and five million United States Dollars ($205,000,000)
