Liberia joins the world to celebrate open government week

The coordinator of the Non – State Actors Secretariat at the Ministry of Finance and Development Madam Carolyn M. Zodua says from May 7-11 2018, Liberia will join the world in observance of the Open Government.

Speaking recently in Monrovia, she said in 2011, Liberia officially joined the Open Government Partnership with the intent of deeping and guaranteeing policy reforms that are taking place within government and to make sure that those reforms promote transparency and accountability and responsiveness of government to its people.

According to Madam Zodua, it is a global call to action that promotes direct collaboration between the citizens and government to make sure that the government is more accountable and responsive.

She notes that the open government partnership is a multilateral initiative which seeks to secure commitment from government and help citizens fight corruption and learn new technology to strengthen governance.

According to Madam Zodua, Liberia will join 75 countries to celebrate the Open Government week to make sure that this government is committed to transparency.

She indicates that Liberia is taking the Open Government week to revitalize Liberia’s entire Open Government Policy. She says Liberia will try to achieve four major objectives during the week of the Open Government which include massive awareness, revise and popularize the current action plan, influence high level government and the restructuring of the steering committee.

“During the Open Government week, we will hold a three – day consultation, and commitment which will be the action plan because it cuts across government, we are looking up to the commitment from the three branches of government. We will have a high level panel discussion about the partnership and what Liberia needs to do to be on par with other countries that are part of the OGP,” she says.
