Liberia, Morocco review agreements
Liberian and Moroccan technicians are in Monrovia reviewing seven agreements that were signed in 2011 during the two countries’ first Joint Commission meeting and will determine the gains made thus far.
Liberia’s Acting Foreign Minister Mr. Elias B. Shoniyin and the head of the visiting Moroccan delegation Mr. Youssef Slaoui addressed the second Joint Commission meeting in Monrovia Thursday morning, 10 May at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Acting Foreign Minister Shoniyin told journalists Thursday that they had the first joint commission meeting in 2011 during which certain important areas were touched including air services, youth and sports, transport and infrastructure and others.
A joint commission between the two countries dubbed “Liberia – Morocco Joint Commission” allows Liberia and Morocco to meet regularly to assess their ongoing cooperation framework and to make amendments where necessary.It also allows them to determine tangibles that have been achieved under the agreement.
According to Minister Shoniyin, this second joint commission meeting is emphasizing more on education, health, infrastrastructure and transport, among others.
He says the meeting gives the two sides the opportunity to review the seven agreements that were signed and determine the gains made thus far.
In this meeting, he says the joint commission got additional ten agreements proposed that technicians from both sides will be looking at in two days and will be signed sometime in June this year when it is anticipated that the Foreign Minister of Morocco Nasser Bourita will be visiting here.
Minister Shoniyin expresses belief that this engagement will deepen, broaden and harness opportunity between the two countries.

Within the frameworks of the second joint commission meeting, he says they will be able to touch the lives of the people meaningfully to implement the development agenda of President George Manneh Weah’s administration.
Earlier, the head of the visiting Moroccan delegation Mr. Youssef Slaoui said it is a joy to be in Liberia, recalling the longstanding friendship and relations between the two countries.
