Liberia regularizes Honorary Consul status in Beirut

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has clarified that the Liberian Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon was closed more than 30 years ago, contrary to publications, alleging the existence of a Liberian Embassy in the Lebanese capital with a Lebanese Chief of Mission. The ministry said Liberia has however maintained an honorary consulate in Beirut.

A press release issued by the Foreign Ministry says the Government of Liberia has taken action recently to regularize the status of Liberia’s Honorary Consul in Beirut as part of the review process for the appointment of Liberia’s Honorary Consuls around the world.

With respect to the Liberian women that were taken to Lebanon under an alleged pretext of providing jobs for them, the release says measures are being taken by the Government of Liberia in collaboration with the authorities in Lebanon to locate and return the young ladies to Liberia as soon as possible based on the outcomes of the investigation.
