Liberian women rally support for Haiti

Hundreds of Liberian women under the banner, Community Health Care Initiative or CHCI, have raised about US$1,000 and LD68, 000 to assist victims of the recent storm in Haiti.

Hurricane Matthew ravaged Haiti’s southwest peninsula early this month with initial death toll put at about 339 people. Executive director Madam Naomi TulaySolanke said CHCI embarks on a car wash and tea sale in various communities, including Central Monrovia, Paynesville City, Robertsfield highway and Bushrod Island, to generate funds to help victims of the Haiti Disaster in North America, which mostly affected women and children.

She said though the fund raising campaign is ongoing, her organization intends to shortly turn money generated over to Action Aid Liberia, an International Non-Governmental Humanitarian Organization that is spearheading a Haiti Disaster Trust Fund here for subsequent transmission to the disaster victims through Action Aid Haiti Office.

Naomi recalled Liberia’s past dark days, including the Mano River Land Slide Disaster; 14 years bloody civil war and the most recent Ebola crisis, which claimed thousands of lives and drew huge assistance from friendly nations.

She said now is the time for well-meaning Liberians to galvanize their merger resources to help the people of Haiti, who have been badly affected by disaster. The CHCI boss also called on Liberians residing in the United States of America and other parts of the world to meaningfully contribute toward the Haiti Disaster Liberia Trust Fund, which will go a long way in strengthening the cordial relationship between Liberia and Haiti.

“Liberia must reciprocate what others have done for the country because it is the only way that our nation’s presence will be felt the world over”, Madam Solanke emphasized.
