Liberty Party Secretary General resigns

Opposition Liberty Party or LP Bong County Secretary General Silas Tokpah has resigned from the party. The LP Bong County Chief Scribe’s resignation news reached the NewDawnon Wednesday, 17 May. The NewDawn’s Bong County correspondent says Mr. Tokpah has cited administrative reason in his resignation letter.

He is said to have contested in Bong County Electoral District #6 on the LP ticket in the 2011 presidential and representatives elections. But he was defeated by incumbent Rep. Adam Bill Conneh. Since his defeat in 2011, Mr. Tokpah has been serving the party by playing his role as secretary general.

Our correspondent says Mr. Tokpah has not yet disclosed to journalis this new political home or what could be his next step, but there are speculations that he might be eying the ruling Unity Party or UP which is led by Vice President Joseph Nyumah Boakai.

“It is true that I have been a member of the opposition Liberty Party, but it is my democratic right to leave at any time I want to leave.

That is while I have addressed my letter of resignation to the LP BongCounty Chairman”, Mr. Tokpah says.
While the former LP Bong County secretary general cites administrationreason for his resignation, there are claims that he is trying toavoid fighting a losing battle, particularly given his fear that theLP might not win the October elections.

Beside Mr. Tokpah’s resignation, there are some LP Bong County officials who have complained about allegedly being left out of the party decision making process in the county.
