Lighting Strikes,Three Dead in Caldwell

At least three residents are reported dead and three others seriously wounded following a thunderous lighting as a result of torrential rain on Sunday in Caldwell Township, outskirt of Monrovia. The incident is said to have shocked the entire community and its surroundings, leaving many panicking.

Authorities at the Redemption Hospital in New Kru Town on Bushrod Island, have confirmed receiving both the dead and injured persons, but they were not immediately identified.

However, one of the survivors only identified as Jeffery, narrated that the lighting destroyed a mobile phone booth in which they were sitting during Sunday’s rain.

Jeffery told newsmen that the lightening was too powerful to the extent that when it struck, every one of them in the booth was immediately unconscious.

“The lighting damaged the mobile phone booth. Everybody in the booth dropped on the ground; mobile phones on charge, computers used as play station, electric wires in the booth were all destroyed,” the victim further detailed. He said those, who could not withstand the blast of the thunder got killed instantly, while survivors, including himself, suffered the impact.

Up to press time Monday, there was no update on the survivors and the identities of their dead colleagues. Sunday’s torrential rain may have had effects on other areas in the country if not only in Montserrado County.

Since the start of the rainy season this year, this might be first lighting that has taken lives, but in recent past, there have been reports of the destruction of properties in other areas; TKS writes.
