LMA corruption fight intensifies

Days after the President of the Liberia Marketing Association (LMA) Madam Alice Gorlu Yeebahn was forced out of office by Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor for alleged corruption, the Interim Head for the LMA Jerry Gono is in the firing line for corruption, but he challenges his accusers to present proof.

Mr. Gono along with several others was appointed by Vice President Taylor, who has oversight of the marketing body, to administer the affairs of the Association, pending general elections.
A day following the preferment, some aggrieved members of the LMA are accusing Mr. Gono of mismanaging agriculture funds, totaling US$90,000.

According to them, Mr. Gono had collected over US$50,000 from them to construct a market structure, but fail to execute the project.

They want Vice President Taylor to replace the current interim management team headed by Gono because of alleged corrupt practices at the LMA prior to the appointment by the government.
But Mr. Gono refutes the allegation, terming it as black lie.

Speaking with reporters Tuesday, 4th September in Monrovia he says issue surrounding the money in question was lay to rest during the LMA recent national convention held in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County.

He challenges those making the corruption claims against him to prove their case in court, maintaining that the matter was resolved at the convention.

The Liberia Marketing Association has been consistently engulfed by infighting involving one administration or another over use of funds collected from members.
