Acting Deputy Public Works Minister for Administration, Christian G. Herbert has called on Liberian Contractors to take advantage of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) capacity building workshop on pricing.
Speaking at a well attended program held at the conference room of the family Planning in Monrovia, Minister Herbert said the training workshop will not only enhance the capacity of Liberian contractors in pricing, but will also afford them the opportunity to utilize the skills acquired from the training in the future.
Minister Herbert used the occasion to thank the Swedish Government for their support and promised to work with SIDA in realizing their dream to assist the people of Liberia.
For his part, the SIDA team leader, Mr. Bela Hussain described the first day attendance as encouraging noting that the Government of Sweden was interested in buttressing the Government of Liberia’s efforts in the implementation and realization of the Poverty Reduction Strategy. He indicated that 300 kilometers of roads are currently being rehabilitated in Lofa and Bong Counties with an extension in Nimba County by 2015.
He further disclosed that in order to achieve this objective, the Government of Sweden has provided 15 million United States dollar grant to the Liberian government. Mr. Hussain said this amount will go mainly to feeder road construction and rehabilitation in rural Liberia.
The training workshop which is intended to prepare pre-qualified contractors for feeder road construction among other things focuses on basic material estimation for concrete, steel reinforcement and earthwork and tender preparation. It runs from September 5-9, 2011.
