Lofa Disqualification Causes Confusion

The national County Sports Meet qualification matches played at the David Kuyon Sports Stadium in Gbarnga, Bong County ended on Thursday, December 8, 2011 between Nimba and Lofa in both kickball and football with Nimba qualifying for the quarter final following a goalless draw.

But the result of the game caused huge mystification when Lofa County football players and administrative staff accused referee Christopher Nylander of cheating them of their lone goal scored in the second half of the game, which could have changed things around.

According to referee Nylander, the ball passed over the crossbar and dropped in the goal pole through the roof of the net, so he disqualified the score and instead, awarded a goal kick to Nimba.

Lofa was looking for a win against Nimba on Thursday to push their group qualification into another round or the judgment for the two teams to qualify be done through coin toasting. A win for Lofa on Thursday would have put each team on three points with one goal each.
