Lone Star vs Zimbabwe Sunday

In continuation of the CAN 2012 qualifying series, Liberia will on Sunday face the Zimbabweans in Harare. The national team is at the bottom of the group, three points behind group leaders, Cape Verde, who are off to Bamako for their group match with the Eagles of Mali.

With the presence of key internationals except defender Jimmy Dixon and injured midfielder Ben Tiklo, the Liberia National Team is reported to be in high spirit for Sunday’s crucial encounter with Zimbabwe.

Team coach Roberto Landi has dropped striker Francis Grandpa Doe from the squad following an appeal by the player to be in Harare today after signing his new contract in Holland.

Team Captain Anthony Laffor, Ansu Toure, Dulee Johnson, Dioh Williams, Patrick Gerhardt, as well as Solomon Grimes, Alseny Keita and Isaac Pupo have all been in training sessions at the Chinese-built sports stadium in Harare since  Wednesday.

Teah Dennis, Francis Myer-Garlo, Martin Kandu, Solomon Wisseh, Patrick Wleh and Samuel Thompson are also in Zimbabwe with the national side. Manning Liberia’s posts will be goalkeepers Nathaniel Sherman and Galley James. A win for the Lone Star will put Liberia in a comfortable position for  a 2012 Gabon-Equatorial Guinea slot.
