Lonestar Cell MTN Receives Commendation

Youths under the banner, the Transformation of War Affected Youths or TRANSWAY for short, are commending Liberia’s premier GSM Company Lonestar Cell MTN for supporting their activities. TRANSWAY has provided scholarships for over 350 underprivileged girls to pursue vocational training in Monrovia.

The girls were seen dressed in yellow T-shirts, sweeping the compound of Lonestar Cell in appreciation of the company’s support towards their education. They also presented some T-shirts and hats to the management of the GSM company.

The Executive Director of TRANSWAY George Smith, who is also CEO of the George Interior Design, said the organization’s primary focus is to get young girls off the streets and provide them an opportunity to acquire skills.

George said Lonestar Cell has been a great help to the organization through the offering of scholarship to some war-affected young people. He praised the company for its commitment to all Liberians through its social responsibility programs. ”if all companies in Liberia will contribute to the lives of war-affected youths like Lonestar Cell, Liberia will be more transformed,” he said.

“It is good to provide vocational training for them since most of them do not have the money to attend academic school; our organization is trying its best to recruit girls from the streets and place them in vocational schools. Presently, we have over 150 girls and over 75 boys in various computer schools,” he disclosed.

George observed that one of Liberia’s problems is that fact most young people are not trained adequately to contribute to the society in which they live.

He noted that if the minds of the youths are not concentrated on useful activities, they can be easily manipulated by evil people to cause problem in the society. The Liberian entrepreneur then urged well meaning Liberians to invest in young people to brightening their future.

He called on government and NGOs to get involved in the process of recruiting girls from the streets and making them useful in society, adding “The youths have nowhere to go for assistance.”

In response, Lonestar Cell Chief of Corporate Communications, Dr. Laurence Bropleh welcomed the acknowledgement from TRANSWAY and urged its members to continue to improving the lives of young people in the street, particularly war- affected youths.

Dr. Bropleh said Lonestar Cell is extremely happy to see young people who have benefited from its (Lonestar Cell) foundation to come back and express thanks to the company. He assured that the company will continue to contribute to the improvement of the standard of life of all Liberians through its social responsibility programs.
