LPDP rocks Kakata

Alex Tyler ND-holds first national convention
The mood was electric and captivating over the weekend in Kakata City, Margibi County when the Liberia People Democratic Party or LPDP, Liberia’s newest political party hosted its first national convention and elected officers to steer the affairs of the party.

The convention, under the theme, “LPDP: the New Direction” was held on December 11th and 12th bringing together officials of government, representatives of various political parties, members of the 53rd Liberian Legislature with hundreds of partisans from the length and breadth of Liberia.

Newly elected chairman, Lofa County Representative Moses Y. Kollie, said the LPDP is not interested in “big book and empty talk or slippery language, but direct and simple answers to unemployment, poverty, quality schools for Liberia’s children, business opportunities and better healthcare, among others.

Chairman Kollie noted that the LPDP does not belong to a particular individual or group, but rather it is a grassroots driven political institution inspired by ordinary workers including wheel-barrow boys, market women, motorcyclists, school teachers, and students, among others.

He said the party is not just another political institution like others but it comes with new ideas to address issues of affordable and better healthcare for all citizens. The LPDP chairman added that the party is also focusing on building good road network in both urban and rural areas of the country, providing improved educational system and introducing strategies that will encourage Liberians to return to the soil for self-sufficiency in food production.

According to him, many political parties in Liberia are nothing more than personality cults revolve around individuals and their ideas, saying “Aside from their followers, their ideas rule the day; they do not accept any other views but their own. They say my way is the highway.”

Representative Kollie said LPDP on the other hand is centered on core principles, which are not person-specific or personality-driven, but rather its democratic ethos and moral rules involved caring for the poor, lifting the weak and down-trodden and providing for less privileged persons in society.
