The Liberia Revenue Authority or LRA, through its Commissioner General, Mrs. Elfrieda Stewart Tamba, has applauded the contribution of the Swedish Government to the development of Liberia, especially the Liberia Revenue Authority.

Sweden has been helping with Liberia’s post-war development program in several areas, including strengthening of the financial sector though its development arm—Swedish International Development Agency or SIDA.

“The Swedish Government has been good partners to Liberia….especially in your goal to reduce poverty,” Commissioner General Tamba noted recently when she led an LRA delegation to the Swedish Embassy in Monrovia.

The visit was a follow-up to the one paid to the LRA by the Swedish Ambassador to Liberia, Ms. Lena Nordström in late January. The Commissioner General acknowledged the Swedish Government’s goal to support poverty reduction and indicated that the more private sector trade is improved in the country, the better it will be for Liberia and Liberians.

“We have come to concretize our relationship with the Swedish Government,” the country’s chief tax collector said, adding, “Though we have benefited from the Swedish Government through the SIDA basket, we come to seek a more direct Technical Assistance from the Swedish Government.”

An LRA release said the Commissioner General presented an official letter requesting technical support to enable the LRA to achieve its strategic objectives and outcomes, as well as to establish partnership with the Swedish Revenue Authority.

The Swedish envoy indicated that her government intends to help people living in poverty better their lives because it is part of Human Rights.  The head of Development Cooperation at the Embassy added that Sweden’s support focus on Strengthening Democracy, Gender Equality, and increasing respect for human rights.
