LRA receives ICT boost

The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) has received several ICT equipment and accessories from the UNDP in Liberia. The equipment includes 50 computer desktops, 25 laptops, 50 UPS, 20 switches and 6 heavy duty printers among others.

The ICT support is in response to a request made by the LRA to UNDP early this year, to assist the entity set up its data Center. The donation of the ICT equipment is the first phase of the data center project, which is put at the cost of over US$200,000.

Turning over the Equipment on Thursday October 23, UNDP Senior Management, represented by its Deputy Country Director for Operations, Rokya ye-Dieng, its Economic Advisor Janice James, National Economic Advisor Stanley Kamara, as well as the Team Leader for UNDP Sustainable Economic Transformation Pillar Dorsla Farcarthy stressed that the partnership with the LRA was in fulfilment of UNDP’s mandate to promote human development.

The UNDP Senior Managers urged the Liberia Revenue Authority to use the supplies to help promote independence in the collection of government revenue from all sources.

UNDP ICT Unit headed by its ICTLAN Manager Kaman Weah is working closely with the LRA to ensure that the data center is set up and the equipment used for the intended purpose. He said his technical team which is composed of ICT professionals, will provide the requisite skills and capacities needed for the project.

Responding on behalf of the LRA, its Deputy Commissioner General for Administration Oliver Rogers lauded UNDP which he described as a “Reliable Partner” in government’s implementation of its reform agenda under the Agenda for Transformation (AFT).

Mr. Rogers indicated that the Liberia Revenue Authority was established to enhance revenue collection; revenue administration; institute tax policies that supports economic growth; support the national budget; and deepen and widen the tax net.

The Liberia Revenue Authority started full operations on July 12, 2014 but the Act establishing the entity was passed in September of 2013 and published in February of this year.
