LTA approves Orange takeover of Cellcom

Harry T. YuanThe Liberia Telecommunications Authority or LTA has approved the acquisition of Cellcom by International telecom giant Orange of France through its subsidiary Orange Cote D’Ivore. The approval was granted following a scrutiny of the deal by the regulatory body.

LTA said it approves the deal on Thursday February 11, 2016 after requesting further documentation from Cellcom and consulting with other government agencies involved with the process. In a statement issued following the approval, the regulator said it gave its no objection to the process early Thursday in a letter signed by Acting Chairperson Commissioner Harry T. Yuan to Cellcom.

This means that the two telecom companies, cellcom and Orange can proceed with the details of the acquisition. Acting LTA Chairman Hon. Harry T. Yuan said, ‘’Our job will not be hurried, what affects the Liberia people we approach carefully and we are convinced this is a very good transaction for the nation.’
