Man, 24, hacks couple to death

Police in Gbarpolu County, Western Liberia have arrested and detained a 24-year-old resident of the county George Kerkula, after he reportedly chopped a 54-year-old male resident to death in Weasua town at about 1:00 A.M.

The accused went to Weasua as a stranger and was received by the 55-year-old victim that he allegedly murdered over the weekend. The state-owned Liberia Broadcasting System or LBS reports that Kerkula narrated to police after the crime that he saw the victim in a dream, insulting him so he took his cutlass and went directly to the old man’s door, while the deceased was still asleep on the early morning of Saturday around 1:00 A.M. and broke into the room and chopped him twice, killing him instantly.

The attacker then moved to the deceased’s wife and two children chopping them several times with the cutlass, killing the woman instantly and critically injuring the children, according to ELBC. The two children were subsequently brought to Monrovia for proper medication. Residents of the town have condemned the murder, which they say is the first in the county.

Meanwhile, George Kerkula is in police custody, pending formal charge and court trial. By Zee Roberts
