Police in Margibi County have arrested a 37 year-old man accused of castrating his father-in-law. The accused, Morris Varney allegedly cut off his father-in-law, Old-man Flomo manhood (penis) on May 14, this month in Teegar’s Town, Weala Township.
Our correspondent in the county quoted a police charge sheet as saying that Morris Varney sliced-off the penis of his father-in-law, an amputee, while he was asleep.
The accused, who was arrested two days later (May 16) and charged with aggravated assault and criminal attempt to commit murder has been forwarded to court for prosecution.
The victim, Old-man Flomo is said to be undergoing treatment at a health center in Weala. Suspect Morris was said to have used a kitchen knife to cut-off his father –in- law penis.
“Suddenly when this happened, I woke-up instantly having felt the pain, but at the same time, I grabbed the doer’s hand tightly because it was at night and I did not know who the person was,” he tearfully stated.
Old-man Flomo said having grabbed the hand of the unknown person; a tussle ensued between him and his son-in-law over the knife. It was during the tussle that he later identified his son-in-law as the perpetrator.
“Morris has made me completely useless for the rest of my life until at which time God can call me to go and rest. I did nothing wrong to him”, the victim dejectedly stated. Varney admitted, but defended his action, noting that his father-in-law took away his wife, Hawa Flomo.
According to him, sometime in April of this year, his estranged wife shaved (cut) his hair while asleep, but when he did the same to her, his father-in-law got annoyed and asked his daughter to break the marriage.
“For this reason, I took the knife and went to my father- in-law’s house in Weala Town where I entered his bedroom hide myself until night fall. I cut-off his penis while he was asleep,” Varney declared.
He further said that he fled the scene because he did not want to be caught. “Because I did everything for my father-in-law by pleading with him to make my wife returned, but he refused,” Varney noted.
