Maryland, Liberia, June 7, 2024 – The lifeless body of a 27-year-old woman identified as Dorothy Nyemah has been discovered in the Degbor River in Old Sodoken Township, Pleebo Sodoken District, Maryland County, Southeast Liberia.

Old Sodoken is the hometown of current Maryland County District#2 Representative Anthony F. Williams. During the district’s election, former Speaker Bhofal Chambers of the 54th Legislature challenged the October 10, 2023 election results.

Family sources of the deceased narrate that the incident occurred on Saturday, June 1, 2024, when the late Dorothy Nyemah had gone to a nearby river to lay baskets in search of fish.

The father of the deceased George Hoto says her late daughter usually went to the river to lay baskets in the evening hours and then returned home.

“So we are surprised today as family members because my daughter usually went to the river to set baskets and returned with whatever she gathered for cooking purposes,” Mr. Hoto explains in tears.

He laments that it was a sad moment for the entire family and town residents when her daughter didn’t return home as usual, adding that relatives and some members of the town were sent to search.

Following the discovery, the Crime Service Division of the Liberian National Police Pleebo Detachment, headed by Chief Investigator Detective Jimmy T. Kaydor, and a team of medical practitioners were dispatched to the scene. A 15-man coroner jury, including relatives and residents of the town, was formed to examine the remains.

But the coroner jury headed by a Police investigator reported no foul play, noting that all body parts were intact.

The deceased lifeless body was turned over to the bereaved family for burial, while residents of the town have expressed sorrow over the death of the late Dorothy Nyemah

Many residents believe the death of the late might have been as a result of drowning.
