Maryland County district#1 Representative, Mike P. Jurry alarms that social media is affecting Liberia’s educational sector.
He stresses the need to keep electronic devices that are distracting students’ focus from education out of learning institutions.
Rep. Jurry notes that when teachers are teaching in the classroom, students’ focus is Facebook rather than lectures.
Speaking over the weekend at the official launch of the Barshell Foundation Financial Aid Scheme, he recommended that cell phones should be banned in institutions of learning.
According to him, it is important that various learning institutions in the country adhere to his recommendation.
The Montserrado lawmaker appeals to universities and colleges in the country to collaborate in promoting education here.
He challenges authorities of the Ministry of Education to take robust steps bringing universities and colleges across the country together without which he says it would be very impossible to move the sector forward.
