Life does not always go as planned. Life does not give you what you deserve but what you demand. Adverse circumstances, problems and challenges are part of life, and many times part of our everyday occurrences. Thus, being a leader requires having the knowledge, skills and ability to become master of circumstances.
Situations always come to test our faith, patience and courage as leaders. Courage itself is not the absence of fear, but being strong and forging ahead even in the midst of fear. Leaders who desire to succeed therefore must resolve to become masters, rather than victims of circumstances.
The trust of leadership is that followers are always looking up to their leaders for solutions and answers. The worst thing that could therefore happen to a leader, is being confused or making his confusion obvious to his followers in the midst of adverse circumstances.
Living in denial of challenges is a weakness many leaders are dealing with today. Denial does not solve problems. What solve problems is confronting challenges, with required wisdom and skills that makes you master of circumstances. This is the factor lacking in many leadership today, and becoming masters of circumstances is what will determine our next level as a continent.
Unfortunately, people react to problems or circumstances in different ways. Some would rather go high on drugs, sleep, get drunk, complain, have sex, fight, destroy what they already have, do nothing, or live in denial rather being proactive and doing something that would give them the positive result they desire.
As a leader, your ability to see solutions in the midst of problems is what stands you out of the crowd. Life may become unbearable until you begin to see things positively. Having a positive mental attitude is what positions you for success in life and leadership. What you see is very important because it shapes your mind and thoughts. What you see, is what you seek and what you ultimately become.
There are three categories of leaders in the world today. Those who talk about problems, those who see problems, and ignore it and those who commit themselves to creatively solving problems, what category do you belong? Possessing the right attitude to solving problems, should be the delight of all leaders. In whatever capacity of leadership you find yourself, the reason people look up to you is because they expect you to be master of circumstances.
Success may never be attained without involving your team in the solution building process. Your team is the greatest asset you possess in leadership. Therefore, involving them in your decision making process, enables them own the process and commit unconditionally to your vision and organizational success.
Master’s of circumstances must also learn the power of wise planning. As a leader, things may not always go the way you plan thus, you must keep planning. The failure of one plan should not lead to frustration but propel you to make more plans. Wise planning sets you ahead of circumstances. Plan it, say it and do it. Planning your thoughts before communicating with your team, helps you see better so that the contribution of others will further help channel your plans in the right direction.
After saying it, do it. The solution is always in the doing, situations do not always answer to empty talk. When you have planned and communicated your vision, mission and goals with your team, take action in the right direction in line with your desired results.
Our objectives as leaders is not approval addiction, which seeks a good reputation all the time at the expense of character but focusing on goals, and plans that will improve the lives of others. I believe the world would be a better place if we all become masters, rather than victims of circumstances. My desire is for you to take charge and responsibility for your life, solve the problem you were created to solve for your nation. Refuse to become victim of a circumstance who complains and blames everyone else without making the right choice and taking responsibility for their lives.
Wait a minute and think, what are the current challenges you are facing? If you can critically define the problem, then your mind will begin to find the right answers. Write down what you think you can do to solve the problem. Who do you think you can talk to that is skillful in that area? What do you think you can improve on, or do better to improve your result? Pray about it, and call a counselor today, your journey to success has just begun. Your dreams and vision will surely come true with the right principles in place, welcome to the world of masters of circumstances.
