MCSS trains teachers

The Monrovia Consolidated School System or MCSS has trained over one hundred teachers in Ebola preventive methods for safety on school campuses.

The training was conducted during a one-day workshop at the William V.S. Tubman High School on Wednesday, in collaboration with the National Port Authority or NPA.

Speaking at the one- day workshop, the Superintendent of the Monrovia Consolidated School System or MCSS, Adolphus Jacobs, called on the government to make available Ebola preventive materials ahead of reopening of schools.

He listed hand-washing buckets, chlorine and thermometers, among others as anti-Ebola materials immediately needed as schools reopen.

Mr. Jacobs cautioned that all MCSS schools must be environmentally safe before schools are reopened in order to ensure the safety of students, teachers and support staffs.

He said without these materials, it would be difficult to protect students against the Ebola virus.

Also speaking at the end of the workshop, the NPA Deputy Managing Director for Administration, Nyekeh Y. Forkpa, admonished the teachers to enforce all preventive measures against Ebola for the safety of students and those entering school campuses.

Forkpa  warned teachers against compromising the preventive measures instituted by the MCSS authority to protect students and staff, adding “If there is any case of Ebola on campus, it would lead to school closing down again.”

The Ministry of Education has already released protocols that must be put in place in every school to ensure a safe school environment prior to re-opening.

The protocols dictate that school administrators identify any possible exposure to Ebola by student or school personnel during 21 days before the planned school reopening in February, 2015, according to a nine-page document released by the ministry.

According to the document, information regarding potential exposure to Ebola in the 21 days before schools reopen will be collected for every student and school personnel during registration.

The document further stated that contact details of parents, guardians or spouses to be reached in case a student or school personnel becomes ill at school will also be collected.
