MIA encourages rural parents to take their wards for measles vaccines

The Ministry of Internal Affairs is encouraging Liberians, mainly residents of the leeward counties to take their children for the ongoing vaccination exercise.

The Ministry said the vaccines being administered by health workers across the country are for the good of all children under five years.

Government recently launched a nationwide campaign aimed at vaccinating all children under five years against Measles, Polio and Deworming.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs said reports gathered from across the country showed low turnout due to several factors.

 According to the statement, Minister Morris Dukuly is urging residents especially in rural communities to support Government and its partners by taking their children to the nearby vaccination centers.

The polio vaccine is being given to children up to five years and the measles vaccine to children between the ages of six months to five years.  Children aged 12months to five years are to also receive deworming medicine.

Measles is a highly contagious viral disease and one of the leading causes of death among young children in the world.

Meanwhile, Internal Affairs Minister Morris Dukuly has congratulated all chiefs, elders and local government officers for collaborating with government in the fight against the deadly Ebola Virus.

Minister Dukuly attributed the victory over Ebola to the resilience of all stakeholders particularly the traditional people and local leaders.

The Internal Affairs Minister however cautioned Liberians to continue with the all preventive measures as Sierra Leone and Guinea are still reporting cases; the release concluded.- Press Release
