MIA recommends communal farming

Internal Affairs Minister Dr. Henrique Tokpa has called on chiefs and elders of Nimba County to invest in communal farming, emphasizing that Agriculture is the only viable means available to the government to rebuild and augment the economy.

Minister Tokpa said in order to boost the Liberian economy, investing in agriculture is preferable rather than relying on the extractive industry. He spoke recently at the close of a day-long acquaintance meeting held at the Administrative Hall with local government authority in Nimba.

Dr. Tokpa also called on chiefs to grow more vegetables and cash crops like cocoa, coffee, etc.  In response, the speaker for the Commissioner Council of Nimba Gabriel Garta Dunbar Gbarlon maintained if chiefs must return to the forest, the government should provide necessary farming tools and equipment.
