Min Gray pushes for 1m for county meet

Assistant Youth and Sport Minister, Murphy Gary has launched an appeal to the National Legislature for an increase in the national county meet budget to 1M. Speaking over the weekend to reporters in Monrovia Mr. Gray said if the Legislature increase the budget it will enable the ministry to meet the demands of this year county meet outside of Montserrado.

He said due to the renovation that is taking place at the SKD the newly renovated Doris Williams sport stadium in Grand Bassa County has been earmarked as a venue for this year’s quarter, semis and grand final.

“Because the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) sport complex is under renovation we have to move to Bassa, we need logistic for our technicians, officials so we need more money for this year county meet,’’ Gray said.

According to Mr. Gray, the preliminary games will be played in four counties: Grand Gedeh, Margibi, Bong and Nimba. He said the official opening ceremony will take place in Nimba Sanniquellie city.

The county meet is held annually in five different sports categories: Basketball, football, kickball, volleyball and track and field. However, if is not clear whether this year’s competition will include all five categories, due to the fact that the chosen venue lacks most of the facilities for the other sports.
