Movie Union to partner with LNTV

The Liberia Movie Union (LIMU) and the Liberia Broadcasting System (LBS) are to strike a partnership that will give the Liberia National Television (LNTV) right to screen Liberian movies.

Making the disclosure at the first general meeting of the Union held at the G. W. Gibson High School on Capitol Bye-pass in Monrovia over the weekend, LIMU president Eddie Gibson said when concluded, the partnership will prioritize the screening of Liberian movies and cut down screening of foreign movies.

He further disclosed that the partnership will also seek to do a serial National Television project produced by LIMU to be shown on LNTV.Gibson also revealed that a committee will be set up to verify the type of films to be screened on LNTV, adding: “We will screen, censor and accept your movie before carrying it to LBS.”

LBS is the state-owned radio and television network charged with the responsibility to promote the developmental and cultural aspirations of the nation. Founded as a corporation in 1960, the network was owned and operated by Rediffusion London until 1968 when its management was passed on to the Government of Liberia. The network began broadcasting as the Liberia Broadcasting Corporation in 1964.

Following the 1980 Coup d’ e’tat, the People’s Redemption Council gave the network its current name, Liberia Broadcasting System.
