Muslims urged to resist violence

The Grand Mufti of Liberia Sheikh AbubakarSumaworo has warned Muslims here not to participate in anything that tends to undermine the Government of Liberia, but to share the love of Allah to all men.
He made the call at the Gurley Street Mosque on Tuesday, 4 June during the climax of a month – long fasting by the Muslim Community in observance of the Holy Ramadan in Liberia.

Sheikh Sumaworo discloses that Muslims believe that the peace being enjoyed by all Liberians should be protected, warning here that it will be counterproductive for any Muslim to engage in anything that undermines the government.

He calls on the Muslims here to further work to sustain peace and security of the country, adding that violence in no way has helped to solve Liberia’s problem.
Meanwhile, the Grand Mufti is also appealing to President George Manneh Weah to ensure that the request of Muslims in Liberia to declare two holidays for Muslims here is granted.

According to the Islamic cleric, during the 2018 celebration of the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Muslims asked the government to declare Eid-L-Fathri-Ramadan and Eid-L-Adha-Abraham Day, respectively as National Holidays in Liberia.Several Muslims interviewed following the message of the Grand Mufti expressed agreement, and also encouraged their colleagues to be aware of troublemakers.

However, they have reminded Liberians about the underdevelopment of the country which has contributed to the prolonged years of civil war which destroyed properties and killed thousands of people.By Emmanuel Mondaye–Edited by Winston W. Parley
