NASSCORP ends interactive forum in Bong

The National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) has ended a one day interactive forum as part of efforts educating Employers and Employees about the institution’s activities.


NASSCORP is an autonomous Public Institution charged with implementing three schemes designed to provide social security protections to eligible formal sector workers.

The interactive forum which was held at the Gbarnga City hall brought together cross section of citizens including Employers and Employees of the Private and Public Sectors.

Giving detail of NASSCORP’s works in Liberia, the Assistant Director General for Public Information, Education and Training Mr. Winston Q. Jah stated that there are three schemes designed to provide security protections to eligible workers including Employment Injury Scheme (EIS) which was launched February 1, 1980, National Pension Scheme (NPS) launched September 1, 1988 and the Welfare Scheme or (WS) which is yet to be launched.

Mr. Jah stated that these Schemes constitute the Social Security Program in Liberia and has helped and continue to help the people of Liberia.He said the EIS is a social security program available to all persons working for a registered employer adding that it is designed to provide cash and material benefits to take care of employees who sustain injuries or become disabled as a result of job related accidents or occupational diseases.

According to him, the NPS is a social security program designed to provide cash benefits to individuals who had to stop working for registered entities as a result of illness or disablement, to elderly persons who can no longer work well as survivors of deceased insured persons.

Also speaking at the opening of the Forum, Bong County Superintendent Esther Nyamah Walker stated that it was important for NASSCORP to organize the interactive forum in order to create awareness on how the institution is working and what benefit it brings to its members.

Superintendent Walker said not too many people understand the operations of the Corporation adding that even some Employers and Employees from the Public and Private Sectors that are currently part of NASSCORP need to be informed about how the Institution works.

The Bong County Superintendent extended commendations to Authorities of NASSCORP for the conduct of the forum and further asked them to continue across the Country.

The National Social Security and Welfare Corporation got a new law in 2017 called “An Act to Repeal Decree No. 14 of the People Redemption Council of the Armed Forces of Liberia and to Create e a new chapter 89 Executive Law establishing the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation of the Republic of Liberia.

The news Act was passed by the National Legislature on December 27, 2016 and signed by former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on February 13, 2017, after which it was printed into handbills.

With the passage of the new Act, the administration of the Civil Service Pension program has been abolished and transferred to NASSCORP for incorporation into the National Pension Scheme.

Therefore, former civil servants and public servants that were receiving pension benefits under the civil service pension program will continue to receive such pension benefits under the administration of NASSCORP.
