Nat Gets NDC Membership

Presidential aspirant Nathaniel Barnes has officially announced that he has taken membership with the Free Democratic Party or FDP. The FDP  is  one of the two political parties currently holding membership with the National Democratic Coalition.

“Considering the proliferation of political parties in our fledgling democracy, rather than challenging the decertification of my original party – Liberia Destiny Party or seeking to established yet another political party, I thought it was wise to associate myself with an existing organization whose ideology, goals and objectives are extremely compatible with my vision for Liberia as we approach 2017 he said,” Ambassador Barnes told reporters last weekend in Monrovia.
According to him, seven political parties initially combined to organize a formidable coalition – the NDC, for effective participation in the 2011 presidential and general elections, noting however, that the NDC –at the moment, consists of the two parties most determined to build a lasting coalition – the Free Democratic Party and New Deal Movement.
Ambassador Barnes further indicated that in addition to the shared views, Liberian political parties could benefit more mergers, emphasizing that he was impressed by the NDC’s ideology of social democracy which is the combination of political freedom with economic justice.
He said the role of government is to empower the people socially, politically and economically so that they may have an integral part to play in their own destiny. Meanwhile, the Vice Chairman of the NDC, Ciapha Saah Gbollie has welcomed Ambassador Barnes to the coalition, along with the tremendous values he brings through his experience, knowledge and vision, especially as reflected in his covenant with the people of Liberia.
“We look forward to the contributions of his Leadership and ability within our ranks,” he added. The Chairman of the NDC, Alaric K. Tokpa, said Ambassador Barnes was being received with outstretched arms, as the NDC was striving to bring together well-meaning, professional and nationalistic Liberians in preparation for the 2017 Presidential and Legislative elections.
Chairman Tokpa further disclosed that the NDC will participate in the 2017 elections at all levels.
