NEC accredits new political party

NEC Liberia NDThe National Elections Commission (NEC) has accredited the Liberia People Democratic Party (LPDP) as the newest registered political party in the country. The LPDP was accredited at a ceremony held Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the headquarters of the Commission in Monrovia.

During the ceremony, the Chairman of NEC, Cllr. Jerome George Korkoya, said the accreditation of the PDPL is a result of the party’s fulfillment of all requirements associated with the registration of political parties as required by the laws of Liberia.

He called on the LPDP and other registered political parties in the country to bolster the work of the Commission by contributing substantially towards the sustenance of democracy in the country.

Chairman Korkoya urged political parties to begin engaging in regular voter education activities that would generate mass citizens participation in electoral activities. He said such activities would help build confidence in the fledgling democracy of Liberia.

Chairman Korkoya announced that the Commission currently has thirteen more applications for the formation of new political parties.

The accreditation of the LPDP brings to seventeen, the total number of registered political parties in the country.-Press Release
