NEC begins accreditation of CSOs

The National Elections Commission (NEC) says it has begun the accreditation of civil society organizations for the 2017 General Elections. The accreditation exercise began Thursday at the NEC headquarters in Monrovia and is due to also take place at the 19 Elections Magisterial Offices across Liberia beginning next week.

At least 750 organizations throughout Liberia submitted applications to the National Elections Commission declaring their interest in providing civic/voter education services for the impending Voter Registration Exercise, which begins in February 2017, and other electoral activities.

The CSOs are being given certificates of accreditation that certify their endorsement by the NEC to provide civic/voter education services during the course of the electoral period. At the same time the Commission has set December 5, 2016 to January 20, 2017 as the period for the accreditation of political party agents, observers and media for the Voter Registration Exercise.
