NEC burns ballot papers, other materials today

The National Elections Commission (NEC) says it will today, Friday, 10 June commence the burning of ballot papers and other materials used during the 2014 Special Senatorial Elections, which marks the beginning of burning of elections materials throughout the country.

The Commission says ceremonies symbolic of the commencement of the burning of the used electoral materials will take place at the Upper Montserrado County Elections Magisterial Office in Bensonville, where used elections materials from Upper Montserrado County and the NEC Central warehouse will be burnt.

Representatives of registered political parties, civil society and the media are expected to attend the ceremony which will mark the beginning of the burning of electoral materials throughout the country. NEC says the destruction of ballot papers and other materials used during the 2014 Elections is intended to clear its warehouses across the country and also provide space for the storage of materials for the 2017 Elections.
