New Labour Law takes effect

The Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Labour has announced here that the full implementation of the new Labour Law of Liberia (Decent Work Act of 2015) took effect on Tuesday, March 1, 2016.

According to a press release issued in Monrovia, the Labour Ministry says it remains committed to full implementation of the Act and called on both employers and workers’ leaders to continue to provide education to their members on the new law.

Earlier this year, the Ministry informed stakeholders within the Labour sector that effective March 1, 2016 it will begin to hold employment institutions and employers responsible for adherence to the new law. The law which will undo the current Labour Practices Law of Liberia, was signed into law in June 2015 by the President of the Republic of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf following a passage by the National Legislature.
