Nimba District#4 youth storm Supreme Court

Aggrieved youths from Nimba County District Four converge on the grounds of the Supreme Court of Liberia recently, calling on the high court to speedily examine ruling into electoral dispute from the district so that they can elect a lawmaker to represent the district’s interest in the House of Representatives.

Speaking to this paper, a spokesperson for the Concerned Citizens of Nimba District#4 D. Wonpue Quellian, explains that since the October 2017 elections, the Supreme Court has not examine the case, which is causing to their district not to represented in the House.

“This is causing a serious embarrassment to us as citizens, and now as you go in the District, there is serious disunity among the people; the supporters from the various sides are at the neck of each other. The youth and the elderly are at the neck of each other”, he notes.

According to him, they have been having conferences within the district and calling on the Supreme Court, but nothing has been done, adding that coming on the grounds of the Supreme Court peacefully will enable the Justices to know that they as citizens need a lawmaker to speak on their behave.

“We are consciously disturbed that in this age when our country, counties and districts are yearning for national healing and unity after a general election that divided our people along political, tribal and mostly sectional lines.” He said.

Mr. Quellian says Senator Prince Y. Johnson, who hails from Nimba, continues to make statements that are chaotic and bent on raising tension in the county.
He claims Sen. Johnson once said on Truth Breakfast Show that one of the candidates from the district will not get justice and in fact, Mr. Kargon has been declared winner.

He further alleges that Senator Johnson gave US$8,000 to Cllr. Kruah to lobby for whom, he didn’t say but adds that if the allegation were true, than the senator is not doing justice to the citizens of Nimba County, stressing that the court needs to do justice to their district.

“We, like any civilized people, are animated by the idea of building a better tomorrow. This better tomorrow must be built on the principles of justice and the rule of law. Corrupt and fraud practices especially, during elections period must be aborted. No one person must see himself much bigger than the people at large”, he concludes.
