Chinese medical team has constructed a mini ETU on the campus of the Norma Williams Elementary School at the ELWA junction in Paynesville.
The ETU is part of outreach program by the Chinese medical team our the weekend with some medical materials, including masks, booths, and hands washing soap, disinfectants, and stationary for the students at the school.
The awareness seeks to educate school children about the danger posed by the Ebola virus and how it can be prevented thru the use of personal hygiene.
Speaking at the program, Nurse Dong Jian Ying of the People’s Liberation Army told the students that water, sanitation and hygiene is essential to a healthy life.
According to her, a clean hand is important because it keeps people from coming in contact with infectious disease. Nurse Dong encouraged the students to wash their hands frequently in order to live a healthy life.
Also speaking, the Field Commanding Officer of the PLA Shu Qain Wane, said the Chinese people have deep love for the people of Liberia and their mission is to help the country recovers from the Ebola nightmare.
Officer Wane said because the children of Liberia have a good and better future, it was important that they be educated on some preventive measures with regards to infectious diseases and Ebola.
He said the awareness and training program has reached out to several community schools with over 400 students trained on Ebola preventive methods, malaria, hygiene and other infectious diseases.
Commander Wane and the medical team are in the country giving assistances as part of joint global effort to fight the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). The team is also expected to train local medical personnel this month.
Mr. Wane said the presence of the Medical team here tells that China enjoys the relationship with Liberia
He however said that most important goal for Chinese helping Liberians is to boost the China-Liberia relationship.
