NTA Appeals for Stranded Teachers in Bong

The National Teachers Association (NTA) Bong County branch has launched an appeal to the Ministries of Education and Finance for the payment of teachers on the supplemental payroll of the Education Ministry. According to our Bong County correspondent, currently over ninety teachers from various parts of the County have spent more than a week in Gbarnga awaiting salary disbursement.

The NTA Bong County President James Miller emphasized the urgent need for the government to quickly address the plight of the teachers. Mr. Miller said teachers, on the regular payroll, received salaries after supplementary teachers are always served, wondering why would regular teachers be given salaries when supplementary teachers are yet to receive salaries.

He expressed the belief that the continuous presence of teachers, clustered together in Gbarnga just to receive their salaries, might also undermine the fight against the spread of the deadly Ebola virus.
