By Thomas Domah, Nimba County

Police in Ganta, Nimba County have arrested and charged a 43-year-old nurse at the Ganta United Methodist hospital with murder.

Suspect Effice Sonkalay assigned to the mental health department of the hospital allegedly flogged a girl living with her to death.

The deceased identified as Ma Yah Samuel was a 9th grader of the Success Foundation school along the Guinea road community in Ganta City.

The 14-year-old victim met her demise following the flogging she allegedly received from Effice Sonkalay, who had accused the deceased of taking her ( Effice Sonkalay’s) cell phone to school on Saturday, February 5, 2022.

The New Dawn gathered that the deceased was allegedly flogged after she returned from school with the cell phone in her possession, and while trying to answer questions from the 43-year-old guardian.

Suspect Effice Sonkalay is currently at the Sanniquellie Central Prison, pending trial.

This paper also learned that following the incident, angry residents marched to the Ganta United Methodist hospital and demanded the body of 14-year-old Ma Yah Samuel.
